12 More Military Bases Show Elevated Levels Of PFAS Forever Chemicals

Water Contamination Lawsuit News

Millions of people that live on or near a US military base may have been exposed for months and years to toxic chemicals in their drinking water

Wednesday, June 15, 2022 - The Camp Lejeune Justice Act (CLJA) may be only days away from becoming law once the Senate approves the passage of the Honoring Our Pact Act. In the meantime, other military bases around the country are confessing to the drinking water contamination catastrophe that those who live, work and play on or near the installations may be facing. Millions of individuals, including military and civilian personnel, their spouses, and their children may have developed leukemia, bladder cancer, and many other forms of cancer from drinking the local PFAS contaminated tap water. Drinking water was contaminated with PFAS forever chemicals from improperly disposing of firefighting foam. Firefighting foam is used to smother petroleum and jet fuel fires on military bases and airports. Firefighters train regularly with firefighting foam and once finished the foam is washed down into local water tables leading to rivers, lakes, and streams that supply municipal drinking water. Forever chemicals are particularly deadly because as their name implies, their molecular structure is strong and never break down. Forever chemicals bio-accumulate in the cells of the body when a person drinks contaminated tap water. When one eats the livestock that was given contaminated water and fed grains that were raised with contaminated water, PFAS forever chemcals can bio-accumulation to staggering levels. The head of the Environmental Working Group (EWG) told The Guardian that experts are shocked at a recent Department of Defense report of tests that revealed the levels of bioaccumulation of PFAS forever chemicals at 12 of the nation's military installations. Scott Faber, vice-president of government affairs for Environmental Working Group told the Guardian, "The data released this week by the military shows five kinds of PFAS compounds at "extremely high" levels, and he said they present a health threat to residents living nearby. "You can only hope now that people know and are finding alternative sources of water because those are shockingly high levels of PFAS." According to the Guardian report, the acceptable levels of PFAS forever chemicals are limited to 70 PPT. The levels that have been found on and near the 12 military bases registered from 1100 to 4700 PPT. Scott Faber thinks that the only reason the DOJ is now coming clean is that they are being ordered to do so by Congress and that had Congress not produced the Honoring our Pace Act and the Camp Lejeune Justice Act, they would have continued to cover up the drinking water contamination problem.

Military veterans and civilian employees are filing drinking water lawsuits against the Department of Defense for failing to warn them of the dangers of PFAS forever chemicals. Thousands of children of military families have died from childhood leukemia because their pregnant mothers drank the local tap water they thought was safe. Other pregnant women have had their children die before delivery resulting in stillbirths. Most military families also suffer from an abnormal number of miscarriages. PFAS drinking water cancer includes testicular cancer, kidney cancer, liver cancer, and pancreatic cancer. And also causes reproductive problems like the ones mentioned above. It is estimated that 98% of Americans have carcinogenic levels of PFAS forever chemicals in their blood.
