There Are Many Ways To Ingest Carcinogenic PFAS Forever Chemical Besides Drinking Tap Water

Water Contamination Lawsuit News

Eating fish and shellfish caught in waters near airports is one example of ways humans ingest food that may contain toxic amounts of PFAS Forever Chemicals

Thursday, June 2, 2022 - PFAS forever chemicals from firefighting foam have contaminated municipal water supplies throughout the United States. Firefighters train regularly with foam to put out petroleum and jet fuel fires and then wash the residue into local sewers and waterways. Those working on or near, or living near local airports are vulnerable to developing cancer and other life-threatening diseases and neurological disorders from drinking PFAS tap water polluted with firefighting foam. In addition, fish caught in the oceans near coastal airports have been tested and found to contain levels of PFAS chemicals much above acceptable limits. The San Diego Union-Tribune (SDUT) reports that an area near a major airport near the city may have exposed thousands of residents to eating fish caught in local waters polluted with PFASCs. It is widely accepted that drinking tap water or eating food that contains PFAS forever chemicals can cause illnesses that include kidney and testicular cancer, thyroid disease, liver damage, reproductive problems, high cholesterol, hypertension, and immune dysfunction according to the SDUT. The Union-Tribune reports that the area near the San Diego International Airports has been found to contain dangerously elevated levels of certain toxins presumably from airport firefighting foam. "PFA chemical, in the groundwater, is over 10,000 times the state of California notification level. San Diego Bay and the Navy Boat Channel are within 200 to 300 feet of the airport. Therefore, PFAS groundwater/surface-water exchange could transmit recreational and food hazards into the bay. In fact, the highest levels of PFAS bioaccumulation are found in fish and shellfish." Other examples of ways humans ingest toxic PFAS forever chemicals, according to the National Institute of Health (NIH) include eating, "meat, eggs, and milk may also contain PFAS if animals have consumed contaminated feed or water. Fruits and vegetables have been shown to contain PFAS taken up from the soil and water used to grow them." PFAS chemicals have been found to leach into the foods we eat that are cooked in Teflon-coated non-stick cookware. Some reports say that PFAS forever chemicals have been found in the urine of about 97% of Americans tested.

It is tempting to give up trying to avoid forever chemicals as they seem to be everywhere and in everything. Food products contain by far the highest concentrations of these chemicals, and the larger the fish, the higher up on the food chain it is therefore it will contain the highest concentrations of PFAS chemicals. Tap water may not contain the same high concentrations of PFAS as fish, meat, or vegetables, but people drink water much more frequently than they eat. Soft drink and alcohol processing facilities may also use water that is contaminated so there's that. At this point, one should realize that the best course of action may be to contact a PFAS forever chemical lawyer and hold 3M, the manufacturer of firefighting foam, or another manufacturer of forever chemicals accountable in a court of law.
