Water Contamination Lawsuit News

These lawsuits join military servicemember and their families who have been likewise injured by contaminated drinking water and are suing the Federal Government

Tuesday, May 10, 2022 - New PFAS forever chemical lawsuits are being filed every day by state, local, and municipal governments around the country alleging that using firefighting foam during firefighting training exercises caused devastating contamination to the environment and the local drinking water supplies. The lawsuits join others by firefighters and also public airports alleging that coming into contact with PFAS forever chemicals leads to developing cancer. The State of Florida is suing the manufacturers of PFAS forever chemical for putting Floridian's health at risk. "The state's lawyers accuse several businesses -- including DuPont de Nemours Inc.; the Chemours Co.; Tyco Fire Products; and Chemguard Inc. -- of using materials that could put people at risk of cancer and other illnesses. The substances are commonly called "forever chemicals," according to Tampa Bay.com. Another recent lawsuit was filed the other day by Dane County suing the makers of firefighting foam trying to recover costs of remediating the local environment. Hundreds of these types of cases are being organized in multidistrict litigation (MDL). Millions of American families may have been drinking water contaminated with carcinogenic levels of forever chemicals from the unsuccessful disposal of used firefighting foam by washing it down into the ground. The foam was presumably disposed of by diluting it with water but it was not because the AFFF chemicals do not organically break down. Drinking AFFF contaminated water causes the chemicals to remain and accumulate in the body, eventually leading to cancer.

Lawsuits target PFAS manufacturers 3M, DuPont, and others for failing to warn consumers of the risks to the local environment and the health and general safety of the public. Lawsuits allege it is the responsibility of the manufacturer of forever chemicals to know that they were an environmental hazard. The toxicity of drinking water that has been contaminated by forever chemicals can not be underestimated, however, it only scratches the surface of the magnitude of the scope of the PFAS cancer problem. Dangerous levels of PFAS forever chemicals are showing up in beef, poultry, and pork products fed PFAS contaminated drinking water. Eating meat that has been given PFAS drinking water could be thousands of times more toxic than the drinking water itself as the toxic compounds have bioaccumulated in the flesh. Of greater concern, if that could be possible, is that high levels of PFAS chemicals have been found in children who have consumed cow's milk infant formulas, and other PFAS-contaminated baby food products. Eating, drinking or otherwise coming into contact with PFAS forever chemicals has led to victims developing a broad range of cancer of the prostate, lung, kidney, and testicles, to name a few. Individuals that live on or around hundreds of military bases scattered throughout the United States are filing PFAS cancer lawsuits against the Federal government. Mass tort lawyers think that PFAS cancer lawsuits against the federal government are the best way for citizens poisoned by contaminated drinking water to receive lump-sum monetary compensation. The Federal Government and the Department of Defense have acknowledged their responsibility for failing to safeguard the health of service members and their families.
