Camp Lejeune Water Contamination Has Helped To Shed Light On A Global Health Catastrophy

Water Contamination Lawsuit News

PFAS forever chemicals are everywhere, in everything, and could be the root cause of the explosion in global cancer and autism rates

Monday, May 23, 2022 - Water contamination on and around the nation's 400 military bases, airports, especially the Camp Lejeune Marine Installation and also municipal firefighting stations has gained national attention. President Biden highlighted the water contamination problems that military veterans and their families face from inhaling toxic burn pit fumes and tap water contamination from using toxic firefighting foam to control the blazes in his State of The Union Address to Congress. Millions of military veterans and their families, and civilians and their families have been drinking water that may have been contaminated with cancer-causing chemicals called PFAS forever chemicals. PFAS forever chemicals are also used to manufacture fast-food wrappers and containers. According to the New York Times, Mcdonald's, Burger King, Nathans Famous and many other fast-food chains have pledged to phase out packaging that contains PFAS forever chemicals. Notably, brand-name consumer products like Teflon-coated cookware, Gortex brand waterproof clothing, and Scotchgard carpet and fabric stain repellant all owe their stick-free features and benefits to PFAS forever chemicals. The scope of the world's PFAS chemical problems constitutes nothing short of a global emergency that puts makes the Covid-19 pandemic look like a mere sniffle.

PFAS chemicals cause several types of cancer and are a leading cause of childhood leukemia. Many military veterans have developed cancer or Parkinson's disease from drinking PFAS chemical contaminated tap water for as little as 30 days. An epidemic of childhood leukemia has been reported on and around the Camp Lejeune Marine Installation in North Carolina. A bill is about to become law that will allow Marines and their family members with cancer to file PFAS lawsuits against the US government for causing their cancer. PFAS firefighting foam is used to extinguish burn pit, petroleum, and jet fuel fires on military bases, airports, and municipal firefighter training facilities, accounting for thousands of contaminated rivers, lakes, and waterways that now contain PFAS drinking water. Most alarmingly, however, is that PFAS forever chemical-contaminated animal feed has been fed to the nation's cows, pigs, and chickens, and the nation's meat supply has been contaminated. PFAS-contaminated sludge also is used as fertilizer on industrial-sized fruit orchards and vegetable farms. The Times reports that environmental scholars are alarmed at the scope of the PFAS forever chemical problems. "It's in the Arctic. It's in the polar bears. It's in trees. It is at the bottom of the ocean," Keith Vorst, an associate professor at Iowa State University who studies the levels of PFAS in products, said in an interview. "We have literally polluted our planet." It is impossible to have lived in the United States or other countries for that matter and to now have been exposed to high levels of contaminants. The Environmental Working Group (EWG) has found that 99% of all Americans tested positive for PFAS forever chemicals. Pregnant women have given birth to children with autism, neurological development disorders, and terminal blood cancer from having drunk PFAS contaminated tap water during their pregnancy. The EWG cites studies that "closely link" drinking PFAS contaminated tap water with developing testicular, kidney, liver, and pancreatic cancer, reproductive problems, weakened childhood immunity, and other equally catastrophic health problems.
